Stunning by day and glittering by night, the spectacular Eiffel Tower truly stands for all that is Paris. Experience the breathtaking, panoramic views (if you can brave the long queues) from the lattice iron tower’s third platform, or the magic it evokes when glimpsed from afar, especially the moment it lights up. Erected in 1889 for the World’s Fair, it’s no longer the tallest structure in the world, but certainly still one of the most dazzling. Climb the first 704 steps of over 1600 in total (the rest are closed to the public) or simply take one of three lifts to the top. With three floors, a choice of fine restaurants, a champagne bar, souvenir shops and educational installations, there’s plenty to explore and delight every visitor. For a chic and cheaper Parisian scene with no wait, pack your own picnic and spread out on the grassy green of the Champs de Mars sprawling beneath, then bask in the Eiffel’s romantic essence.
